Claudius the God  - later Random House edition

by Robert Graves

The second of two novels chronicling the bloody history of the life of Claudius, third emperor of Rome and his rise to become emperor of Rome. This is a cynical look at the Roman Imperial Court under Augustus Caesar as seen at first through the eyes of a young boy with a club foot, nervous twitch, and a stutter ... Augustus' nephew, Claudius. He writes about his life, the imperial succession, and how it comes to pass that the simpleton becomes the emperor. This book covers Claudius's life from A.D. 41 until his suspicious death in A.D. 54.

A wonderful read, this book and its companion, 'I, Claudius' were adapted for television into a superb 14-hour Masterpiece Theatre series.

Book is in very good condition; a nice reading copy, black cloth with gold printed spine.  Dust jacket also very good.
