The Colour of Heaven - first UK edition
by James Runcie - signed
Venice in the year 1295. A woman who has longed for a child throughout her
marriage, discovers an abandoned baby in a narrow canal. She calls him Paulo,
and she and her husband raise him in their home among the glass-makers of Murano.
Although short-sighted, his close vision gives him an acute eye for
distinguishing color and tone. The talent is recognized by Simone Martini, a
painter from Siena, who sends Paolo on a quest to find the perfect ultramarine
blue, the colour of heaven.
Book has blue cloth boards with the title in gold on the spine; nicely
illustrated end papers are 'old' maps; signed on the title page.
