Originally published in the UK in 19700by Victor Gollancz, this is the first
US edition. The story of Paulinus Maximus, whose defense of the Wall of
Britannia against the barbarian tribes in the north earn him the appointment as
"General of the West" by the Roman Emperor. The title comes with a condition,
however, which is to assemble and command a single legion to defend the Rhine
front. The fate of the Roman empire hands in the balance.
Book is quarter bound with navy cloth and blue boards, the title appearing on
the spine and front board in silver. Purchased new.
The jacket is unclipped, with the price appearing on the rear panel. Always
mylar-protected.
