Fanny - first US edition - signed
by Erica Jong
Subtitled, "being The True History of the Adventures of Fanny Hackabout Jones", this is a highly readable, bawdy, adventure story about a young women of 18th century London, who in the course of her
travels to and from the New World falls in with witches, highwaymen, pirates, and prostitutes, to name a few.
Lush detail with rich reconstructions of period mannerisms, attitudes and style,
and a protagonist with a thoroughly modern contemporary consciousness, this
story brings to mind a similar novel, "The Sotweed Factor", by John Barth.
Book is red cloth with gold-stamped spine and front cover. Maps on inside pastedowns and end papers.
Signed by the author on the title page.
Purchased while in college at Penn State, I personally acquired the author's signature when she visited the campus in the fall of 1980.
