The story of the son of a noble family, believed dead after the 1346 massacre at Crécy, Everard makes his way to Paris, where he hides his noble birth to pursue the life of a scholar - while at the same time preparing for the day when he will return in triumph to Vaumartin, his legacy.

Book is purple-blue boards with red cloth spine, stamped with gold lettering. Inscribed, "Merry Christmas Cecelia Holland" on the title page. Straight, square, illustrated map on end papers, book is in near fine condition. The jacket is also near fine with very minor edge wear along top edge, only visible from backside.

Holland writes wonderful historic fiction, and here is another fine example of her work ... detailed, historically accurate, nice narrative style.
