Pawn in Frankincense - first UK edition
by Dorothy Dunnett - signed
Fourth book in the Lymond series. In early 1552 the royal galley Dauphine sails to Marseilles, bound for Algiers and Constantinople, with Francis Crawford aboard as a 'special envoy' to the French court. He is also seeking a young, blonde child, and an Irish women. This book has one of the most intense, heart-wrenching scenes I have ever read, "The Chess Game in the Seraglio". Unequaled writing..
Book is fine, tight, no tears, minor foxing starting on top edges of paper; red boards with gold lettering, sharp corners; dust jacket has very minimal wear on the edges, price-clipped.
A collectible copy of the difficult to find UK first editions. I
personally acquired the signature in Philadelphia in September 2000.
