The Persian Boy - first US edition

by Mary Renault

Meet up with Alexander the Great at the age of 26, 6 years after his accession, and where "Fire from Heaven" ends. His story is narrated by his lover, Bagoas, who is chronicled as such in history. The adventures of Alexander's last seven years, some stirring, and some tragic, are thus told by Bagoas, an expert courtier and courtesan, sophisticated far beyond his years, and his background as a purchased beautiful slave-boy of Darius the Persian King.

Book is blue cloth with red-stamped lettering on spine and M. R.'s initials on cover. Second printing of first edition, with previous owner's inscribed name and date.
