The Three Edwards - 1st US edition

by Thomas B. Costain

This is the third of 4 novels in a series of histories about England that Costain wrote over a 10-year period. This volume deals with the 100-year period from 1272 to 1377, during which William Wallace and Robert the Bruce waged the Scottish wars. The Hundred Years' War was decimating Europe, and the Plantagenet family was surviving illicit loves, conspiracies, and executions. The first Plantagenet Edward gave England her parliamentary government. Edward II nearly destroyed England, his primary achievement being his son, Edward III. Edward III built trade with Flanders, established the Order of the Garter, and triumphed over the French at Crécy.
