The Tontine - Volume I - first US edition

by Thomas Costain

This is the story of a tontine (a form of gamble, part lottery, part insurance) that begins with the day when the battle of Waterloo was fought, and ends when the 19th century was drawing to an end. The action centers in London and Whitehorse, but also wanders to America, Jamaica, and Bermuda. As the years pass, the suspense of the Tontine builds until finally there are but three survivors. Then there are two. And at last - one.

First volume. The book is grey with blue and gold stamped spine titles and is in very good condition, with previous owner's name inside. The dust jacket is a bit worn at folds, but intact. A nice collectible copy of another wonderful piece of historic fiction by the author of "The Black Rose" and "The Silver Chalice".
